Ford recommends replacing wiper blades when they become worn – for optimal visibility in rain, slush and snow, even as often as twice annually.

Windshield wiper blades are made of rubber, so will wear out over time. Wear can be due to usage and exposure to sun and the elements. Replacement intervals vary depending on UV ray exposure, atmospheric and driving conditions and usage.

A FEW TIPS

Smearing and squeaking can sometimes be solved by simply cleaning the blades and windshield

• Change front blades in pairs and the rear wiper at the same time
• Keep windshield clean and ensure you are using Motorcraft­ Windshield Washer Fluid
• To maintain blades, wipe periodically

SOME COMMON SIGNS THAT YOUR WIPER BLADES MAY NEED REPLACING

• CHATTERING OR SQUEAKING SOUND
  These sounds may be the result of worn wiper blades not being able to glide evenly over the glass surface.
• WINDSHIELD SMEARING OR STREAKING
  When wiper blades become worn, the pressure on the windshield may become uneven leading to smearing and streaking.
• CRACKED, SPLIT, TORN OR DISCOLOURED RUBBER
  When wiper blade rubber becomes worn, it may crack, split, tear or become discoloured, resulting in ineffective operation.
• BENT WIPER FRAMES
  When wiper frames are bent they’re unable to make proper contact with the glass and not clearing the windshield effectively.
• CHANGE IN SEASON
  Winter wiper blades are designed specifically with water repellent materials to help prevent ice build-up and allow the blade to remain flexible in the cold.
